We have already written about the Arion 550 Cmatic, which was tested by us. But we also have something bigger: Ariona 660 with a maximum power of 185 HP. The tractor is interesting because it is well equipped. His tasks are not easy. How will he cope?
We have already written about the fact that the Claas Arion 550 Cmatic was included in our editorial test. But we also have something for those who are looking for a specific “workhorse”. This is the Arion 660 Cmatic.
Big tractor, big power
The tractor is actually quite a good workhorse. Curb weight approx. 8 and wheelbase 2.82 m do their job. Working with the Mandam Spec-HD cultivator from Mandam for deep cultivation under normal field conditions seemed almost like fun for Arion.
The 6-cylinder Ariona 660 engine generates as much as 185 HP of maximum power (175 nominal) and 205 HP of maximum power with boost. The drive unit comes from the John Deere factory and has a capacity of 6.8 liters. But the horses are not the most important thing here.
Cebis and Cmatic – two “TVs” on board
What we were most curious about was how to drive a machine with a Cmatic continuously variable transmission. Equally interesting for us was the operation of the automatic parallel driving system and management of accompanying equipment as part of precision agriculture. First impressions – positive, although it cannot be said that everything went smoothly from the beginning. However, the multitude of functions and settings requires training and familiarization with the settings – both in the case of driving settings and accompanying functions, as well as the Cemis 1200 monitor with precision farming options.
Is the operation intuitive? Probably yes, although it seems that some functions and messages – especially the Cemis monitor – could be presented in a slightly more transparent way.
Cmatic – definitely worth attention
As for Cmatic – it works great. We had the opportunity to drive along the road and test it in the field – also in quite difficult conditions on muddy ground. The continuously variable transmission adjusts the speed very well to the engine load and responds quickly to changing conditions. On the road at a speed of 50 km/h, the tractor glided like a good-class car, and the engine speed dropped to approximately 1,450 rpm.
A full test of the Claas Arion 660 Cmatic tractor will be available soon.
