Farmers will once again be remembered by the Prime Minister of the Polish government and the head of the European Commission. And not only them. They planned a protest during an event organized by the PTWP Group, the publisher of the farmer.pl portal and the monthly “Farmer”, and this event brings together an distinguished group of experts.
- The European Economic Congress begins in Katowice on May 7.
- Guests include: there will be Ursula vin der Leyen and Donald Tusk.
- Farmers from OOPR announced their visit to Katowice on May 7 this year. During the European Economic Congress.
- Stanisław Barna, chairman of the West Pomeranian Team of Agricultural Unions and Organizations, is also asking for turnout support on social media.
Farmers see the need to discuss the future of Polish and European agriculture, especially in such a place and at this time and in difficult times. On this day, the European Economic Congress will begin at the International Congress Center in Katowice, which gathers recognized authorities, expressive individuals and decision-making politicians. The special guests of the congress will be: Donald Tusk and Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Commission and EPP candidate for the position of President of the European Commission. The personalities who will be present for a few days in Katowice attract like a magnet and gather around them those who want to draw the attention of others to themselves and their problems.
Transformation for the future. This is the main theme of the European Economic Congress
The topics of the European Economic Congress include the most important areas of the economy, directions of social development, key phenomena and trends for the future. This year’s theme of the congress is “Transformation for the future”.
And we will also talk about the future during the session “Common Agricultural Policy and Polish agriculture”.
This discussion panel will bring together experts such as: Agnieszka Maliszewska, director of the Polish Chamber of Milk, vice-president, COGECA; Agnieszka Tołłoczko-Wróbel, farmer, running a farm with an area of 1,000 ha; Jacek Zarzecki, president of the Polish Association of Beef Cattle Breeders and Producers; Grzegorz Majewski from the Young Farmers Movement; Michał Nowacki, Non-Professional Farmer, Young Farmers Movement; Jerzy Plewa, Team Europe expert, head of the Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Areas (DG AGRI) in the European Commission in 2013-2020 and Paweł Chmieliński, manager, Department of European Integration, Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development, Polish Academy of Sciences. Unfortunately, Czesław Siekierski, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, did not take advantage of the invitation to the congress. The agricultural session of the European Economic Congress will be led by: Iwona Dyba, editor-in-chief of the portal farmer.pl, and Radosław Iwański, editor-in-chief of the monthly “Farmer”.
Debate on the future of agriculture during #ECE2024
The debate on the future of agriculture will focus primarily on the creation of a national agricultural policy that is to complement the Common Agricultural Policy. National agricultural policy – is it there or maybe it is not there? What should the national agricultural policy be in the context of the CAP? The Polish countryside is shrinking and depopulating, can these phenomena be prevented? What structural changes do farmers expect and what policies are needed to implement them? Active Polish farmers and “small family farms” towards the national agricultural policy. What changes to the CAP will be beneficial for Polish agriculture in the long run? What national policy and how should it be implemented should increase the competitiveness of active farmers and small family farms in relation to Ukrainian and European agriculture?
We will not discuss all the problems of our agriculture during one session, but we will pass on the conclusions from the discussion to the Polish government and we believe that the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland will become familiar with them.
Farmers from all over the country will be able to participate in this extraordinary event via live coverage on the farmer.pl website. On the first day of the congress (May 7 this year), you will be able to watch the inaugural session, during which the above-mentioned special guests will speak. There will also be live coverage of the session “Common Agricultural Policy and Polish agriculture”.
