The mayor of the Dorohusk commune, Wojciech Sawa, has just announced the resolution of the farmers’ protest at the Polish-Ukrainian border crossing. However, farmers say clearly: we will not leave the protest site.
As the farmer.pl editorial team learned, on Monday around noon the commune’s mayor decided to dissolve the protest of farmers who have been protesting at the border crossing in Dorohusk continuously since February 9.
– I decided to dissolve the farmers’ protest in front of the border crossing in Dorohusk due to the losses of entrepreneurs from our region, as well as for the sake of the residents, because there is a very high risk of them losing their jobs in various companies related to the border crossing. Especially since the protest has no effect – Wojciech Sawa told PAP.
He recalled that protests at the border in Dorohusk have been ongoing since October 2022. First, the border was blocked by carriers, and now by farmers. The carriers’ protest was also resolved by the mayor in December last year.
The decision to dissolve the protest was read to the farmers. It will be communicated to them in writing within 72 hours. The protesters have 7 days to appeal against this decision to the District Court in Lublin.
A few days ago, the leader of the Dorohusk protest, Barłomiej Szajner, said:
Dorohusk won’t come down, there’s no force to pull us down. We are intimidated, there are attempts to put pressure on us both from the local government and from carriers, but we will not give in.
On Monday, in a comment for the editors of farmer.pl, Szejner maintained this position and noted that the farmers, despite the mayor’s decision, would not leave the protest site.
The chairman of the farmers’ protest in Dorohusk, Marcin Wilgos, confirmed in an interview with PAP that he intended to file an appeal in this matter. – By not appealing, it would seem that we agree with the mayor’s decision – he added.
In Dorohusk, so far protesting farmers have allowed only single trucks to pass towards the border, and currently – among others humanitarian aid buses and vehicles.
He commented on the mayor’s decision on social media, among others: Vasyl Zwarych, ambassador of Ukraine in Poland: “The “Jagodzin – Dorohusk” checkpoint on the border with Poland has been unlocked! The Polish farmers’ strike has been suspended and traffic through this checkpoint now operates in both directions as usual. As of today, the protest of Polish farmers continues only at one checkpoint in front of the Hrebenne-Rava Russian checkpoint.
