We have done our part when it comes to solidarity on migration issues. Therefore, for me it is obvious that Poland has done everything that was expected of us and should simply not be covered by this relocation mechanism – said on Friday the mayor of Warsaw, deputy head of PO Rafał Trzaskowski.

At a press conference in Rzeszów, Trzaskowski was asked about the migration pact and Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s announcement that Poland would not agree to the relocation mechanism.

We have always been against forced relocation and today even the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, said that he absolutely understands Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s arguments. Because we did our part when it comes to solidarity in migration matters, accepting millions of Ukrainians, noted Trzaskowski.

– Therefore, it is obvious to me that Poland has done everything that was expected of us and should simply not be covered by this mechanism – emphasized the president of the capital.

He added that in recent years other decisions have also been made to protect Europe against the problem of migration. Among them he mentioned, among others: securing the borders and establishing a special border protection agency, as well as reforming the asylum and emigration system.

Therefore, we are better prepared for this challenge. However, all European politicians understand that migration issues are used to destabilize Europe and hence they understand the Prime Minister’s reasons – said Trzaskowski.

Poland will not agree to a refugee relocation mechanism

The European Parliament approved the migration pact in its vote on Wednesday. Regulation introducing the so-called mechanism voluntary solidarity was approved by 301 MPs, 272 were against and 46 abstained.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Wednesday that Poland would not agree to the relocation mechanism despite the migration pact adopted by the European Parliament. As he pointed out, there is no EU migration policy without effective border control and protection of its territory.
