Slovakia agreed to negotiations on further trade in agricultural products with Ukraine in the same format as in Poland – with the participation of industry organizations and unions.

According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy, Ukraine and Slovakia will conduct negotiations on trade in agricultural products. The idea is to introduce licenses for exporters and importers. The Slovak government side will be accompanied by representatives of agricultural unions. The first bilateral meeting is scheduled for May in Kosice.

“We agreed to systematically update our contractual framework for financial and technical cooperation, economic cooperation and social protection by the middle of next year. And also work out the quickest possible abolition of unilateral restrictions on Ukrainian agricultural products,” announced the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

Slovakia is among the EU countries that – like Poland – have banned the import of grain from Ukraine. As a result of agricultural protests at the end of November 2023, Slovakia extended this import ban to additional products. Honey, sugar, malt and soy have been added to the four banned products: wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds.
