We have prepared a website where you will find candidates for mayors and councilors in rural communes. When to vote, how to vote? Everything about local government elections in one place.
On the website you will find a search engine where you can find all the candidates you are interested in. The search can be made using the candidate’s name, the name of the town or district from which the person is running for local government.
Additionally, on the website you can vote I support/disapprove. You can vote once a week.
When are the 2024 local elections?
The local elections will be held on April 7. In towns where a second round is necessary, it will take place on April 21. Throughout Poland, we will elect 1,548 commune heads, 822 mayors and 107 city presidents.
When is the mayor, when is the mayor and when is the president?
The executive body of the commune is the commune head, mayor or city president. In a commune in which the seat of government is located in a city located within the territory of this commune, the executive body is the mayor. In cities with over 100,000 inhabitants inhabitants, the executive body is the mayor of the city.
Elections for the city mayor are, as a rule, direct. However, there are also cases when he is elected by the city or commune council. This happens when only one candidate runs in a given commune and does not receive more than half of the valid votes cast. In such a situation, the mayor will be elected by the commune council by an absolute majority of votes of the statutory composition of the council.
If none of the candidates receives more than half of the valid votes cast, another vote is held on the fourteenth day after the first vote (the so-called second round).
Local elections 2024: How to cast a valid vote?
Residents with the right to vote will receive 4 ballots – for candidates for the commune council, the district council, the provincial assembly, and also for the commune head (mayor or president), but in the second round only one.
In the case of residents of cities with county rights, there will be only three cards – without the one with the list for the county council, because cities with county rights carry out the tasks of both communes and counties, therefore only city council members are elected.
On each ballot, you can only vote for one candidate by placing an “X” next to his name. If a different mark is placed or more than one candidate is selected, the vote will be considered invalid.
Local elections 2024: How to vote outside your place of residence?
In local elections, the most important element of voting is the place of residence. This is what determines the ability to cast a valid vote.
If we live in a commune where we are not registered, we must submit a written application to the commune head, mayor or president.
The application must include personal data: name (or names), surname, date of birth, PESEL number, and father’s name. You should also attach a photocopy of a document confirming your identity, as well as a written declaration specifying your citizenship and permanent address in Poland.
The Electoral Code does not specify the date by which an application to be added to the voter register must be submitted. Please remember, however, that the authority has three days to consider our application.
