In complete secrecy, a group of American scientists conducted a weather experiment over San Francisco Bay. She sprayed aerosols to create clouds that would reduce solar radiation.

The United States government already considered using geoengineering to reduce the negative effects of climate change several years ago. It was supposed to be an alternative to the restrictive emission and energy regulations proposed by the EU, which aroused social resistance in the USA. Despite the objections of the governments of many countries, environmental organizations and a large part of the world’s scientists, it turns out that in the USA experimentation with the weather has been allowed.

With a cannon on the sun

As The New York Times and Los Angeles Times found out, such an experiment was carried out a few days ago in the waters of San Francisco Bay, in complete secrecy and without warning public opinion. According to reports, a group of scientists received a decommissioned aircraft carrier at their disposal. From its deck, special cannons were used to spray aerosols into the air to create artificial clouds. According to geoengineers, they would cover the earth’s surface to prevent global warming.

The media reported that the experiment was led by a group of scientists from the University of Washington, who are conducting a research project called “Managing solar radiation.” She had to obtain appropriate permits and huge funding for the project. In the experiment, scientists sprayed microscopic salt particles into the air. In this way, they wanted to increase the density of ocean clouds and thus increase their solar reflectivity. Thanks to this, the clouds would act like umbrellas and, as a result, cool the atmosphere. Scientists are reportedly planning further field trials, with the consent of the federal authorities.

Despite objections

There is no word on the results of these experiments for now, but attempts to interfere with the weather and climate have already aroused great controversy in the world, including in the European Union. Scientists in Europe have previously opposed such experiments, arguing that their effects are difficult to estimate and carry risks. They argue that artificial clouds only eliminate the greenhouse effect and work temporarily, in no way eliminating the problem of climate change. Meanwhile, disturbing natural weather processes can even cause catastrophic consequences.

He strongly protested against such actions, among others. government of Germany. Now it turns out that the United States follows him with the opinions of the rest of the world. As reported by the Los Angeles Times, the tests in the San Francisco area were deliberately carried out in strict secrecy because they were afraid of criticism and attempts to block them.
