Wrocław wanted to end the farmers’ protest?

Did the authorities try to end the strike in Wrocław? This is according to the statements of President Jacek Sutryk. However, the protest continues.

  • From the very beginning, there has been pressure to end the farmers’ strike in Wrocław
  • The blockades continue and the protest is peaceful

Was it supposed to be about ending the protest or reorganizing it?

On Sunday, the Mayor of Wrocław, Jacek Sutryk, informed on his Facebook account about major traffic disruptions related to the farmers’ strike. He explained that the strike was joining the “wave of European protests.”

“I Such a difficult road situation additionally worsened due to the high water level in Widawa and the flooded street. Wilczycka from the side of Swojczyce. This road was one of the alternatives to bypass the congested Sobieskiego Avenue” – he commented. After another wave of rainfall, flooding occurred in towns near the blockade.

“Due to the above, I will contact both the Lower Silesian Voivode and the Wrocław Police Commander regarding the termination or at least reorganization of the protest.“- he informed the residents.

“I hope that the difficulties will last shorter than the February 19 declared by farmers. At the same time, referring to the voices suggesting dissolving the assembly, I would like to explain that this would not solve the existing difficulties, but would only intensify the form of the protest, paralyzing other areas of Wrocław. On Sunday, tractors appeared in other places in our city (including Bema Square), and only the Police has the authority to take action against the drivers of these vehicles.” – added.

However, the strike is still ongoing, farmers are commuting and changing whenever possible. People unrelated to the industry also help – by providing coffee or cake. Rural women’s groups also prepare meals.

Moreover, today (February 13), farmers distributed not only leaflets but also tulips for women in the market square. From the very beginning of the strike, the demands have been manifested in Wrocław through various actions.

Farmers rushed to help on flooded roads

“Additionally, due to high water levels in Widawa and local flooding of the road in the commune. Długołęka street is closed to traffic. Wilczycka – also from Wrocław“- says the mayor of the city in a statement.

Meanwhile, farmers rushed to help in the face of flooding – together with local Volunteer Fire Department units, they also cleared roads and pumped out water. Several tractors came from Wrocław after the strike to help. Hardly anyone mentioned it, but people rushed to help without hesitation.

Most support farmers

There were many unfavorable posts regarding the strike in the comments under the post of the Mayor of Wrocław. There were also calls for the strike to be banned and to be dissolved immediately.

On the other hand, there were also words of support. Attention was paid to, among others: for the city’s support for the women’s strike and at the same time lack of understanding for the farmers’ situation.

“Unlike farmers, I have to work all the time”, “tractors were bought for subsidies and now they are protesting” – there were more such comments. Therefore, pro-educational actions carried out in the city become even more important. Many people still do not know what the genesis of the current situation is and what its effects may be.

There were also voices that strikes in Poland were very “cultural”, as one user emphasized, unlike what was happening in Germany and, above all, in France.

However, it seems that support for agricultural demands is high despite various difficulties. During blockades, you can see many gestures of support, which – as is typical in such situations – are unfortunately also accompanied by comments that are in no way suitable for forwarding.

The strike is expected to culminate on Thursday, February 15 in Wrocław. Farmers from Greater Poland, the Opole region and, of course, Lower Silesia are to come to the capital of Lower Silesia. The farmers are to go to the very center of the city to the office of the European Parliament.
