The Warsaw police initiated an internal investigation into the officer who allegedly threw paving stones at protesting farmers.
Many videos and photos have appeared on social media, which prove the questionable behavior of police officers who secured the agricultural protest in Warsaw. The recording that caught particular attention showed one of the officers throwing an object picked up from the sidewalk into the crowd of protesting farmers. According to a reporter from RMF FM radio, after a wave of criticism, the police initiated internal proceedings against this policeman.
The incident allegedly took place on Frascati Street in Warsaw, where a clash between riot police and protesters occurred. The recording clearly shows that there are torn paving stones lying at the policemen’s feet. At one point, one of the officers picks up an object from the ground and throws it towards the crowd.
Did he throw what he threw?
As reported by RMF FM, internal proceedings may precede disciplinary proceedings against a police officer if the suspicions spread in the media are confirmed. Then, any evidence will also be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for legal evaluation. It is the prosecutor who will decide whether an investigation should be initiated in this case. For now, the prosecutor’s office is not conducting any proceedings against the policemen who secured the agricultural protest in Warsaw.
According to police estimates, 30,000 people took part in the protest on March 6 in the capital. During it, there were clashes with the police. The police used tear gas against the demonstrators and stones were thrown at the riot police. 13 officers were injured. During and after the protest, the police detained several dozen people. 26 people were charged with participating in the riots.
