Of the 20 counties with the largest pig production, nearly half are regions from the Greater Poland Voivodeship. However, counties from two other voivodeships are in the lead.
Thanks to the courtesy of Mariusz Dziwulski from PKO BP, we received data from the Animal Identification and Registration system of ARiMR. This is the most detailed information possible on pig production in Poland: it contains the number of pigs and herds in individual counties, taking into account the size of herds. We will present the most interesting fragments of this list in the coming days. First, we focus on the counties with the largest pig production in Poland.
Which counties produce the most pigs?
The list of counties with the highest pig production in 2021-2023 is quite repetitive – almost half of the counties with the highest population are those belonging to the Greater Poland Voivodeship. Traditionally, however, other regions are in the lead: Żuromin County (with a population exceeding 500,000 animals) and Piotrków County, where the pig population is approaching 400,000. pigs. Importantly, production in the mentioned regions is increasing and in total it constitutes almost 10%. national population.
Other regions, mainly those belonging to the Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Warmian-Masurian and Pomeranian Voivodeships, lag far behind. The total pig population in the 20 largest poviats last year amounted to over 3.2 million animals, which means that 20 poviats concentrate 1/3 of the national pig production.
