Many local governments will also face a second round of voting in this year’s elections, which will take place on April 21. But it will only happen in the event of elections for commune heads, mayors and city presidents. In the previous local government elections, the second round was held in 649 cities and communes.
On April 7, during the first round of local government elections, we elect commune heads, mayors and city presidents, commune and city councilors, district councilors and voivodeship councilors (members of provincial assemblies), and, in the case of Warsaw, also district councilors.
In the so-called cities with district rights (there are 65 of them throughout the country – these are all the larger cities in our country) we will not elect district councilors, because their equivalent there are city councilors.
During these elections, we will receive three or four ballots: one of them will contain candidates for commune, mayor or city president, the second – candidates for the commune/city council, the third – candidates for the district council (this card will not be in cities with county rights), and the fourth – candidates for the provincial assembly. There will be one more card in Warsaw – with candidates for district councils.
Returning to the second round of local government elections, it will take place two weeks after the first round, i.e. on April 21. It will take place in those communes and cities where none of the candidates for commune, mayor or city president received at least 50 percent in the first round. all valid votes cast.
