What should you consider when choosing roofing when building a house in 2024?

A house is an investment that is intended to serve the buyer for many years. When building it, it is worth avoiding excessive savings and haste. One of the stages where this may have a particularly significant impact is the installation of the roof – both its structure and covering. What should you pay attention to so that the roof performs its function reliably? This is explained by Krzysztof Sądel, a roofer.

  • Polish construction law is not without certain loopholes. One of them is the lack of the need to carry out technical inspection of the roof covering – unlike, for example, the inspection of installations or the final acceptance of the entire building.
  • Using cheap materials to build a house and then a roof usually does not make the right choice. A good example is wood used to assemble a roof truss.
  • Most investors usually want construction costs to be as low as possible. The truth is, however, that any savings can be made on furniture, which can be replaced with new ones when they no longer please or fulfill their functions. However, you should not save on the construction of the house itself, because building it at a seemingly cheap cost almost always turns out to be very expensive in the end.

Polish construction law is not without certain loopholes. One of them is the lack of the need to carry out technical inspection of the roof covering – unlike, for example, the inspection of installations or the final acceptance of the entire building.

If a given construction site has its own manager, he usually focuses on issues such as the roof structure and its compliance with the design, while the control of matters related to workmanship is often omitted.

Price is not the most important thing when choosing roofing

If not the price, what should investors consider when building a house in 2024?

Most investors usually want construction costs to be as low as possible. The truth is, however, that any savings can be made on furniture, which can be replaced with new ones when they no longer please or fulfill their functions. However, you should not save on the construction of the house itself, because building it at a seemingly cheap cost almost always turns out to be very expensive in the end – concludes Krzysztof Sądel.

The low price of the service offered by a given team is usually due to carelessness and quick execution. This, in turn, soon translates into the need to make expensive corrections.

That is why price and speed should never be a determinant for an investor during construction, and especially when installing the roof, which is supposed to protect the building and its inhabitants against unfavorable weather conditions – admits a roofer cooperating with Regamet.

The great importance of small details in building a house in 2024

Using cheap materials to build a house and then a roof usually does not make the right choice. A good example is wood used to assemble a roof truss.

In construction projects, architects most often assume the use of certified C24 wood for this purpose. Meanwhile, in the end, few investors rely on it.

In sawmills, which increasingly offer dried sawn timber, they order half the price, fresh, improperly impregnated and only superficially painted. The buyer is satisfied because he bought the material from which he intends to build the house cheaply. However, problems with such material, such as warping, cracking or buckling of roof structural elements, almost always appear relatively quickly – explains Krzysztof Sądel.

Other materials that both investors and construction teams try to save on are inappropriate nails, screws or roofing membranes.

He wanted to sell the pump and lost PLN 12,000

When we install a more expensive, high-quality membrane, we do not risk that after a few or a dozen years it will lose its properties and no longer fulfill its function. It is worth remembering that replacing it requires dismantling the entire covering – including the battens.

Only with high-quality materials and a good, experienced team can you be almost sure that the house and roof will be constructed correctly. Then everything should be done not only aesthetically, but also in full accordance with art – advises investors Krzysztof Sądel, a roofer cooperating with Regamet.

Roofing quality. Why is it so important when building a house?

If we want the roof to remain durable and aesthetic for many years, it is definitely worth choosing professional, high-quality roofing.

It is better to invest slightly more money and choose materials that are more durable and resistant to unfavorable weather conditions. – convinces the roofer.

Taking into account the low price of the service, not paying attention to details and choosing low-quality roofing – these are the most common mistakes made by investors when installing a roof.

To avoid them, we must not forget that a roof is an investment for several dozen years, and after that time only high quality will defend itself.

Without energy storage, proper operation of photovoltaics and windmills is impossible
