We need a systemic model for collecting inventory information from farmers

The third edition of Polish Grain Day took place on June 6 in Warsaw. It is organized by the Grain and Feed Chamber. We asked the president of the Chamber, Monika Piątkowska, about the grain surplus, which has been talked about a lot this season.

Farmer.pl was one of the patrons of this important industry event. There are reports and conversations from the meeting on our website. Now we present Monika Piątkowska’s statement about the amount of grain stocks in Poland. Why are these numbers so important and indefinite? Video below.

What grain stocks in Poland in 2024?

The level of domestic stocks has been a source of discussion in recent months. In the background there were subsidies for cereals. The difference in forecasts was significant. How to change it?

– We must have reliable data if we want to manage a strategic market such as the agri-food market in a responsible manner – the president of IZP told us.

Marciniak on the wheat market: Current prices are influenced by the balance sheet reduction in Russia

The discrepancies are large

We would like to remind you that in March, the Institute of Agricultural and Food Economics estimated that final stocks in Poland would amount to approximately 9 million tons. In turn, e.g. the Grain and Feed Chamber predicted that they would be much smaller, approximately 4 million tons. Ultimately, it was estimated at just over 3 million tons. What does this mean?

Piątkowska: The role of the state is to equip the agricultural sector, not only with funds in the form of subsidies, but also with systemic tools

– We do not have a systemic model for collecting information from farmers. We actually provided different data than the data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture (…) It turned out that ours were the correct ones. The market confirms this, she said.

She added that we need a professional analytical unit. More in the video below.
