The war cannot be the reason for drastic losses for Polish agriculture; we have the right to expect the EU to increase the scope of assistance and protection of European agriculture, especially Polish agriculture, said Donald Tusk on Friday during a conference with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.
On Friday, the head of the Polish government met at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister with his Finnish counterpart, Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo.
During the joint press conference of the heads of government, Prime Minister Tusk said that he had informed Orpo about the situation in Polish agriculture and on the Polish-Ukrainian border.
Tusk emphasized that “both countries are very committed to helping Ukraine.” “We are exemplary examples of how to help Ukraine in times of war.”
At the same time, as he noted, “we realize that the war cannot be the reason for any drastic losses or damage that Polish agriculture is suffering today.”
Tusk thanked the Prime Minister of Finland “for understanding” the situation
As the head of the Polish government noted, “we will have to make decisions here in the country to protect Polish agriculture in the face of unequal competition with agricultural products flowing from beyond the eastern border, mainly from Ukraine.” He announced that he would “intervene at European level.”

He emphasized that “it is not easy for Poland”, which is very involved in helping Ukraine. At the same time he pointed out that:
we have the right to expect from our European partners, from the European Union as a whole, to increase the scope of assistance and protection of European agriculture, including, above all, Polish agriculture. I will be very consistent here, said the head of government.
Farmers’ protests have been going on for several weeks in many European countries, including: in Germany, France, Italy, Greece, the Czech Republic and Hungary. Farmers are protesting against low prices of agricultural products, the European Green Deal and cheap imports of agricultural products from outside the European Union.
