As a result of the protests of farmers and carriers, both the previous and the current government promised intensified checks on Ukrainian trucks at Polish borders and roads. So why do transport inspectors focus on checking Polish transporters?
- As a result of the autumn protests of Polish carriers and then farmers, the previous government announced intensified inspections of Ukrainian transport.
- At the same time, he promised road transport inspectors that they would be included in the uniformed services.
- After the elections, however, the draft of the relevant law was left in a drawer, and the new government is not eager to fulfill the promises of its predecessors.
Kontrole na opak
As a result, ITD inspectors are conducting an informal strike, which means that they are carrying out their duties incorrectly – reports Wirtualna Polska. Instead of focusing their forces on inspections of trucks from the East, they check Polish road transports very frequently and thoroughly. Polish carriers are fed up with this, as penalties are to be imposed even for the smallest offenses. However, the government does not react and pretends that nothing is happening – after all, the transport inspection has the right and obligation to inspect… all trucks.
Informal strike
The demands of the “unofficially protesting” inspectors seem justified and understandable. They must be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, enforce the law, issue fines, drive police cars and wear uniforms. This means that they work under the same principles as other uniformed services. They cannot even protest like other professional groups, therefore their strike cannot be formal. Therefore, no one should be surprised that they want to be a uniformed service and demand the same privileges as their colleagues in uniform.
Meanwhile, ITD inspectors are treated as ordinary officials. The problem is that their voice is ignored because their formation is small, unlike, for example, the Police. Several hundred inspectors without the right to strike have few ways of putting pressure on the authorities. The problem is that the inspectors’ protest leads to an absurd situation – increased inspections concern Polish trucks.
