
Reports indicate that Belgian farmers made good on their threats and blocked the large container port in Zeebrugge yesterday. Today they announced another protest in Brussels.
- The negotiations of Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo apparently failed, because media reports show that tractors of Belgian farmers blocked one of the largest ports on the North Sea in Zeebrugge.
- On Thursday, farmers announced another “invasion” on Brussels and a blockade of the so-called European district.
- They will be supported by farmers from other EU countries, including: from Spain.
As we read on the Polish transport industry portal 40ton.net, Belgian farmers successfully blocked traffic to the port of Zeebrugge yesterday. As a result of the blockade, hundreds of trucks were stuck in the port and on access roads. Truck drivers had no opportunity to bypass the agricultural blockade or turn back.
In addition, convoys of agricultural tractors blocked traffic on key roads and highways across the country for another day. Road protests covered not only the south, but also the northern regions of Belgium.
Today, Belgian trade unionists announced another visit to Brussels. They are to block roads to the capital and protest in the European district, where the headquarters of the most important EU offices and authorities are located. The European Council is meeting today in Brussels.
