According to the results of our weekly survey, the vast majority of surveyed weaner sales points decided to increase prices (from PLN 10 to PLN 35/piece).

Forecasts for the piglet market

As Jakub Napierała emphasizes, the pig market is currently very unpredictable, including: due to social unrest and the geopolitical situation.

In turn, Jakub Dorożyński, sales specialist from PH Konrad, points out that the weaner market shows potential for further increases, although the price is approaching a level that may cause uncertainty regarding placements.

– We are starting to reach prices that may cause farmers to think twice before deciding to put in. Prices of fattening pigs are not rising, but on the other hand, grain prices remain low, which means that the demand for pigs remains high. Currently, farmers prefer to use grain for fattening rather than sell it, which is why there is a shortage of weaners in Denmark, and the Danes may decide on further price increases. However, we are reaching a level where the three pillars, i.e. the price of cereals, fattening pigs and weaners, may no longer match each other – says Dorożyński. – Prices of fattened pigs are stable and no increases are expected. They may occur on our market in the first half of March in connection with Easter. Will weaners become more expensive? Hard to say. The current supply and demand reality indicates that the Danes may try further increases. However, I think that if there are no increases on the German fattening market, the prices of weaner pigs in Denmark will be maintained or the increase will be small – added our interlocutor.
