On March 4, VH Polska opens this year’s spring crop insurance season. What risks can a farmer insure his crops against?
- Stimulated crop vegetation encourages insurance companies to open the spring agricultural insurance season earlier.
- As every year, farmers can insure their crops with a premium subsidy from the state budget.
- On such terms, they can insure themselves against 5 risks.
Using the VH Polska offer, farmers will be able to choose appropriate protection from the Secufarm Lato product line and insure their crops against such risks as:
- spring frosts,
- grad,
- heavy rain,
- hurricane,
- or fire.
Insurance with subsidy in many agricultural crops
Producers of cereals, beets, potatoes, corn, rapeseed and fruit and vegetable growers can count on subsidized crop insurance. The subsidy from the state budget is up to 65% of the contribution. According to applicable regulations, at least 50% of agricultural crops must be insured.
Meeting this requirement not only protects the insured crop and compensates for the amount of damage resulting from the weather factor, but is also a condition for obtaining disaster assistance. For example, when applying for drought aid, you should also attach copies of insurance policies confirming the conclusion of agricultural crop insurance contracts from the year in which such crop damage occurred.

A wide range of crop insurance
According to VH Polska, farmers have a guarantee of a fixed insurance sum this year, liability for ponding water or lodging resulting from heavy rain, and liability for as little as 8% of the crop loss in the field or its part.

A policy adapted to the climate
The offer is adapted to the needs of farmers, which change with the introduction of new varieties, but above all with climate changes.
– We are observing an increasingly earlier start of vegetation, which increases the exposure of crops to spring frosts, very dry springs with sand storms (blowing away, blowing, abrasion of plants), intense early torrential rains leading to washing away or silting of entire crops or
sowing and in the later stages of lodging and ponding, as well as increasingly severe hailstorms. The increase in the intensity and frequency of weather phenomena combined with high expenditure contributes to a significant increase in the value of damages incurred by farmers. Farmers will find protection against all these risks in our new product for this season, the disaster package – we read in the announcement provided by VH Polska.
Crop insurance is income protection
VH Polska estimates that interest in insurance will be greater than before, because rising production costs coupled with falling prices of agricultural produce will encourage farmers to secure their
income and limiting losses. Insurance is one of the most important risk management mechanisms.
Remember about the grace period
When concluding an insurance policy, remember about the grace period.
– The limits on premium subsidies allocated for this purpose by the Minister of Agriculture are similar to those from previous years, so we do not expect the pool of money to run out, but let’s not postpone insurance until the last moment. In the spring season, the grace period plays a very important role,
usually 14 days, so it is worth thinking in advance about insurance against risks that may appear at the beginning of the growing season, such as the already mentioned early heavy rains or frosts – says Andrzej Janc, sales director at VH POLSKA.
