The economic situation in the Polish beef sector depends on the development of exports. According to Wiesław Różański, president of UPEMI, the Polish authorities should strive to conquer new markets.
– Currently, we can observe what experts were talking about at the beginning of the year, i.e. declines in beef prices, which we are observing year on year. It should be noted, however, that despite the declines, current prices are higher than 4 or 5 years ago. Thus, it can be concluded that to some extent the situation of the beef sector has stabilized – says Wiesław Różański, President of the Management Board of the Union of Producers and Employers of the Meat Industry (UPEMI).
Visible impact of inflation on cattle prices
According to Różański, last year’s inflation is partly responsible for the drop in prices, which largely limited the purchasing power of consumers, which is only now starting to recover.
According to the president of UPEMI, the Polish beef market is primarily export. Although domestic consumption is growing, exports still dominate. There is also a tendency to increase the value of exports outside the European Union. However, in this case it is difficult to talk about stable solutions, because a lot depends on the relationship with the veterinary administration in the target countries.
– In many cases, the lack of a quick path to opening new markets has a major impact on Polish breeders and processors. Therefore, one of our main goals this year is to support export and promotional activities in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – announces Wiesław Różański.
