The National Electoral Commission does not accept the financial report of the Law and Justice party, founded by Michał Kołodziejczak. He is afraid that the party may have obtained illegal funds, and the party does not respond to the National Electoral Commission’s inquiries.
The National Electoral Commission rejects the financial reports of the Lawful Poland party, founded by the current deputy minister of agriculture, Michał Kołodziejczak. The National Electoral Commission found that the group had not fully settled its accounts, so it could have obtained funds illegally, reports Rzeczpospolita.
Polska Prawna is one of several and the oldest party registered by Michał Kołodziejczak. Its president was first Michał Kołodziejczak, and then he was replaced by his cousin Piotr Kołodziejczak. The rejected financial statement covers 2022.
NEC reservations
The National Electoral Commission suspects that the party did not provide the entire bank account history, because the provided statement only covers the period from December 6 to 31, 2022, and the PP was formally registered since March 2022. In a letter sent to the party’s headquarters, the National Electoral Commission asked about these unsettled months, as well as a possible settlement of the costs of the premises in Sieradz used by the party, or the costs of meetings or printing materials.
According to Rzeczpospolita, the National Electoral Commission did not receive a response on this matter. The uncollected letter was returned to the sender. However, the party’s lawyer confirmed in a telephone conversation that the e-mail sent from the National Electoral Commission on this matter had been received and read. Despite this, the party did not provide any explanations to the National Electoral Commission and did not provide any documents.
Severe reaction
As a result, the National Electoral Commission decided that it had the right to assume that the party obtained financing and property from unauthorized sources, and could also illegally accumulate funds outside the bank account. The National Electoral Commission also pointed out that the Rule of Law Poland did not publish the registers of contracts and payments on the Internet, which is mandatory – we read in rp.pl.
Commentators note that a year ago, the regulations on the financing of political parties were liberalized, leaving them with a larger margin of error in mandatory reports. The fact that the National Electoral Commission reacted so sharply means that the group’s leaders approached their duties extremely carelessly. On the other hand, Poland Ruled by Law did not benefit from state subsidies, so it does not face too severe consequences.
Four games
It is worth mentioning here that, in addition to Poland Ruled by Law, Michał Kołodziejczak and the Agrounia community created and registered three other parties: Agrounia TAK Social Movement, Stable Poland and Social Interest. However, none of them stood for election, because Kołodziejczak and a group of his activists ran from the Civic Coalition list.
