The Ministry of Agriculture encourages you to submit comments on the Animal Health Law (AHL) regulation. The evaluation is carried out by the European Commission, and comments may be submitted, among others, by: industry and producer associations, veterinarians and non-governmental organizations. Opinions are accepted until April 3, 2024.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the European Commission must evaluate Regulation (EU) 2016/429 Animal Health Law (AHL) of the European Parliament and of the Council, together with delegated acts. The results of this assessment will be presented by the Commission in a report to the European Parliament and the Council by 22 April 2026.
What are the goals of the assessment?
The European Commission’s assessment will cover the functioning of the Animal Health Law. The purpose of the assessment is to determine whether:
- it provides competent authorities, entities and other interested parties with an appropriate framework and tools to effectively protect animal and public health by preventing and controlling animal diseases;
- whether it ensures the safe movement of animals and animal products within the EU single market.
Who can submit comments and when?
Interested entities and parties, e.g. industry associations and producers, veterinarians and non-governmental organizations, can submit comments on the Animal Health Law until April 3, 2024. The results of the assessment carried out by the Commission may constitute the basis for future legislative proposals in the area of animal health.
