
The Warsaw Police Headquarters announced that two suspects detained during Wednesday’s protests were sentenced by the District Court for Warsaw-Śródmieście. The procedural activities were conducted in an accelerated manner.
“The court assessed their behavior as acts of a hooligan nature,” KSP reported on the X website.
As reported, more people were charged in connection with the riots. Several of them were brought to the Warsaw-Śródmieście District Prosecutor’s Office, where they were charged with active assault on a public official, which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Arrests and charges
Earlier, the capital police announced that officers had brought charges against 14 people detained after Wednesday’s farmers’ protests in Warsaw. The suspects will be charged with, among others, participating in a rally, insulting and violating the bodily integrity of police officers.
“The charges presented also concern exposing a person to the risk of loss of life or serious damage to health, as well as drug crimes,” KSP reported on the X platform. She added that the procedural activities were still pending.
Provocateurs at the protest
KSP also informed that, according to city hall estimates, approximately 30,000 people took part in Wednesday’s protest. people.
The vast majority of protesters demonstrated their views peacefully. However, there were many provocateurs among them who attacked policemen, destroyed property and tried to break into central state bodies. The aggressive behavior of people taking part in the protest, as well as police officers, is being investigated in terms of the correctness of the preventive measures taken, the KSP said in a press release.
Injured officers
She said that as a result of the incidents that took place in front of the Sejm, a total of 14 policemen were injured and received medical assistance in hospitals.
“The injuries of one of the officers are so serious that he must remain in hospital,” the police said.
A total of 55 people have been detained since 11 a.m. on Tuesday in connection with the protest, including 26 on Wednesday. More than 1,400 people were identified, 34 fines were imposed and 12 applications for punishment were submitted to the court.
