Local farmers’ protests are ongoing throughout Poland. It is no different in Barwinek in the province. Podkarpackie, where the border crossing with Slovakia is blocked. We have received information from our readers about the difficult situation in this place, which is reported on an ongoing basis by the local news portal Terazkrosno.pl. How is the protest at the border crossing in Barwinek going?
From 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, farmers have been protesting at the border crossing between Poland and Slovakia. It is scheduled for as many as 19 days, until 6 p.m. on March 31. However, there is an ongoing dispute between the farmers, the mayor, the voivode and the police regarding the form of the protest. The atmosphere is tense and there is a threat of dissolution of the assembly.
No passage for trucks
In the original version, the protest was to take the form of blocking the border crossing only for trucks, which were to be carefully inspected at the same time. On March 14, the deputy voivode of Podkarpackie, Wiesław Buż, visited the protesting farmers. He assured about the 24-hour operation of the sanitary and veterinary inspection at the border crossings in Medyka and Korczowa and inside the voivodeship.
On the same day, an unnecessary incident occurred at the border crossing. Just before 11:00 a.m., the driver of a Volvo truck insisted on bypassing the blockade created by farmers. In response, one of the protesters pushed harrows under his wheels, which destroyed one tire.
Risk of dissolving the protest in Barwinek
On Friday, March 15, the situation at the border crossing worsened. After receiving information about the possible dissolution of the gathering, the farmers decided to completely block the traffic, thus stopping the passage of previously allowed passenger cars. The mayor of Dukla, Andrzej Bytnar, arrived at the site and started negotiations with the protesters. However, truck drivers joined the talks and, by loudly expressing their dissatisfaction, did not gain the farmers’ sympathy, so the crossing was not opened.

In the meantime, the Deputy Commander of the Municipal Police in Krosno, Sub-Inspector Daniel Lendzio, also came to Barwinek. Faced with warnings about irregularities during the protest, the farmers agreed to unblock traffic at the border crossing. They continue their protest at the border crossing, but it no longer obstructs road traffic.
