
The past seven days have brought further price reductions for fattened pigs. Nevertheless, there is news from the market about a possible improvement in the situation of breeders.
Despite the stabilization of prices on the large stock exchange and favorable news from the small trading floor, domestic prices of fattened pigs have dropped by a few to a dozen or so cents over the past few weeks.
Prices of fattening pigs in Poland
According to our weekly survey, domestic purchasers pay on average PLN 8.29 net per kilogram for fattened pigs in class E, which means a decrease of 6 cents compared to the previous quotation. Prices range from PLN 8.00 to PLN 8.60 net per kilogram.
Live weight pigs currently cost PLN 6.50 net, which means that compared to last week, prices have dropped by 12 cents. Livestock rates range from PLN 6.00 to PLN 7.40 net per kilogram.

Better times are coming?
Despite the bad news from the domestic market, there is some optimism in the industry. As Aleksander Dargiewicz, president of the management board of Polpig, points out, in February we will be able to see signs of price recovery:
Clear signals about upcoming changes come from some German processing plants, which offer long-term contracts maintaining the current purchase price level for many months. This may prove unattractive for pig producers compared to weekly pricing. The supply of live pigs in Spain is also decreasing, which some observers attribute to, among others, with herd health problems. – we read.
