There were no changes on the weaner market this week. As our interlocutor emphasizes, if fattening pigs become more expensive on a major stock exchange after the holidays, the prices of weaners will remain the same and may even increase.
According to the results of our weekly survey, almost all surveyed weaner sales points decided to maintain prices.
Forecasts for the piglet market
As Jakub Dorożyński, sales specialist from PH Konrad, emphasizes, the situation on the weaner market may develop differently, but he does not expect a price crisis or a drastic change in demand and supply.
– For the second week, piglet prices remain unchanged, which is why the market has calmed down a bit. There are still few weaners on the market, but this week we could see a slightly larger supply of weaners on the market. This may be related to the end of the intensive breeding season in southern countries, which have been purchasing animals for fattening in recent weeks, often driving up the prices of animals from the free market. This may also be due to the proximity of Easter and the reduction in the market for fattened pigs. This connection caused livestock producers to consider a possible delay in their introductions to observe what will happen on the market – says Dorożyński. – However, we are receiving signals that after the holidays, pigs for fattening in Germany may become more expensive by approximately 5 euro cents. Therefore, this may be a temporary situation, and if the prices of fattened pigs on a large stock exchange increase after the holidays, the prices of weaner pigs will remain, or maybe even increase, although their prices are already quite high. I do not think that we will face a price crisis on the weaner market or that the availability of animals for fattening has increased dramatically – he adds.
Current prices of domestic weaners (March 22, 2024)?
In the case of domestic weaners, almost all surveyed weaner sales points maintained the prices from last week. There was only one increase of PLN 10/piece.
According to the results of our weekly survey, rates for domestically produced weaners weighing 20 kg currently average PLN 405/piece. net. Prices of weaners in this mass range from PLN 390 to PLN 450/piece. net.
Domestic weaners weighing 30 kg cost on average PLN 511/piece. net. Their prices range from PLN 500 to PLN 540/pcs. net.
How much do imported weaners cost (March 22, 2024)?
In the case of imported piglets, all surveyed sales points decided to maintain prices.
Weaner pigs imported from Denmark are currently valued at an average of PLN 524/piece. net. Their prices range from PLN 477 to PLN 570/piece. net. The prices given are for weaners weighing 30 kg.
