According to the Renewable Energy Institute, last year was a record year in Polish photovoltaics, both in terms of the number of installations put into operation and the total power of devices. In 2023, most of the new capacity was created in photovoltaic farms with an installed capacity above 30 MW (873 MW).
According to the latest database “Operating photovoltaic installations in Poland 2024”, prepared by the Renewable Energy Institute (IEO), in the first quarter of this year, there were 4,870 PV installations above 50 kW, of which 262 were farms above 0.5 MW. The total installed capacity in this group (i.e. without micro-installations) reached 5.4 GW. In 2023, there was a 41% increase in new installed capacity compared to 2022.
Last year was a record year in Polish photovoltaics, both in terms of the number of installations commissioned and the total power of devices – 80 farms with a total capacity of 0.77 GW and 1,417 small installations (from 50 kW to 1 MW) with a total capacity of 1.1 GW. The vast majority of the capacity installed in 2023 will be photovoltaic farms above 30 MW (873 MW).
In which voivodeship is the largest increase in installed photovoltaic power?
Most PV installations operate in the power range of 0.5–1 MW – 3,544 devices, of which 3,510 are small installations and 34 – farms. The majority of PV farms in Poland (175 out of 262) operate in the power range of 1–5 MW. It is worth paying attention to the territorial distribution of photovoltaic installations in Poland.
The number and total power of installations is the highest in the following voivodeships:
- Greater Poland Voivodeship (701, with a total capacity of 887.84 MW);
- Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship (404, with a total capacity of 544.81 MW);
- Lubuskie (401, with a total capacity of 510.77 MW).
Most farms are operated in the following voivodeships: Warmian-Masurian (48, with a capacity of 233.57 MW), Greater Poland (34, with a capacity of 307.49 MW) and Lublin (21, with a capacity of 121.11 MW).

The remaining voivodeships with operating farms with a total high capacity are: Pomeranian Voivodeship (17, capacity 298.96 MW), West Pomeranian Voivodeship (15, capacity 146.63 MW) and Lubusz Province (15, capacity 153.96).
Photovoltaics remains the clear leader among renewable energy sources in our country. The accumulated power of PV devices was over 17 GW at the end of 2023. The total capacity of wind installations reached 9.4 GW, and biomass devices – 0.98 GW – confirm IEO experts.
