National FFA announces 18-week internship opportunity

The National FFA is accepting applications for an 18-week internship position at its headquarters in Indianapolis from mid-July to mid-November 2024.

“We are in search of a dynamic and motivated intern to join our Awards and Recognition team. The selected candidate will be responsible for coordinating and executing our esteemed national award programs and competitive events, which encompass the Agriscience Fair, American Star, National Chapter, Agricultural Proficiency Award, and Career & Leadership Development Events. The culmination of these efforts will be showcased at the National FFA Convention & Expo, scheduled from October 22 to October 26, 2024, in Indianapolis,” writes the National FFA Organization.

Starting in the summer, the intern will be crucial in facilitating the national awards judging activities. Key responsibilities include managing multiple Zoom accounts, facilitating concurrent meetings, organizing and preparing awards, and developing scripts and PowerPoint presentations for finals hall sessions. Additionally, the intern will collaborate with the CDE/LDE team to compile convention materials, coordinate committee travel arrangements, manage housing logistics, and facilitate communication with event superintendents and committee members.

According to the job listing, the ideal candidate should possess meticulous attention to detail, exceptional organizational and time management skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), Zoom, Google Classroom, and JotForm platforms. Flexibility, a thirst for knowledge, a positive attitude, and a strong team spirit are qualities we value in our ideal candidate.

In terms of essential functions, the intern will be expected to perform daily tasks using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, collect, print, and organize portfolios, manuscripts, and links from national finalists, maintain up-to-date records for all award program members’ travel information arrangements, and handle clerical work such as inventory, printing seating cards, and creating seating charts.

They will also create, send invitations, and monitor Zoom meetings; build, organize, and manage Google Classrooms; manage event schedule management for the convention app, website, and communications for all award and events programs; coordinate all 30 award and events program events including venue set-up, food and beverage, and audio/visual details, prepare and inventory meeting diagrams in Visio and Social Tables, participate in pre-convention venue meetings, communicate effectively with event committees, superintendents, sponsors, and volunteers, and be available to work in-person at the National FFA Center for up to 40 hours per week. Other duties as assigned will also be expected.

Candidates should be enrolled in or a graduate of post-secondary studies, with interested areas of study including Business Management, Tourism, Hospitality, Convention, Meeting, Special Event Planning, Agricultural majors/programs, or Ag Education. Previous experience in event planning & logistics is a plus, and knowledge of the National FFA Organization, awards, and competitive event programs, specifically Career and Leadership Development Events, is helpful.
