Georgia and Texas ag commissioners place football wager

Things are heating up as the No. 3 TCU Horned Frogs prepare to play the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs tonight in the College Football Playoff National Championship. To kick off the competition, both states’ ag commissioners have taken to wagering some of the state’s famous agriculture products and cuisine.

Tyler Harper, the agriculture commissioner from Georgia, has bet his counterpart in Texas a bushel of peaches that the Bulldogs will win. Georgia State Sen. Russ Goodman sweetened the deal saying, “We are so convinced that the dogs are going to beat up on the Frogs, that we’re are going to add in some Georgia-grown blueberry cobbler.”

    Hey Commissioner @MillerForTexas,

We’re so confident the Dawgs will beat the Frogs on Monday Night, we sweetened the deal!

If TCU wins we’ll send you @GeorgiaGrown peaches & blueberry cobbler, and when the Dawgs win I’m looking forward to those Texas Wagyu Steaks! #GoDawgs pic.twitter.com/KmvI0G8mk4

Hoping the Horned Frogs will beat the Bulldogs, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has wagered a “bunch of Texas Wagyu steaks” if his team loses.

I really don’t want to send a bunch of Texas Wagyu steaks to Georgia Ag Commissioner Tyler Harper! But that’s our bet on tonight’s game if Georgia wins; so go Horned Frogs – beat the Bulldogs! #FrogFam #RiffRam #FearTheFrog #TylerHarper #GeorgiaGrown #GoDawgs #GeorgiaFootball pic.twitter.com/N8OHhoMpJD

Inspired by the agricultural wagers and getting in on the action are Texas Gov. Greg Abbott betting some good Texas barbeque and some Lone Star cold drinks that TCU will beat Georgia.

Georgia Gov. Brian P. Kemp wagered chopped pork and Brunswick stew in return.

We accept your wager, @GregAbbott_TX! In return, we’re wagering some delicious chopped pork & Brunswick stew from @FreshAirBBQue.

Tell them to fire up that smoker, Governor. Our @GeorgiaFootball Bulldogs are bringing home that trophy tonight!

It’s always entertaining to see agriculture getting some of the limelight during sports seasons, and getting agricultural commissioners and governors in on the action is all the better! We’ll be waiting to see who wins and just how much of these ag products gets divvied up.
