
Last weekend, members of the management of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development began inspections at border crossings. – Excessive imports of sugar, oil and cereal products such as flour, cereal meals, especially corn into the Polish market are confirmed – emphasized Minister Czesław Siekierski and announced strengthened controls and even greater activation of inspection work.
Inspection of import of products from Ukraine
Minister Czesław Siekierski visited the border crossings in Korczowa, Medyka and Hrebenne as part of the inspection of imports of agri-food products from Ukraine.
– Excessive import of agricultural products from Ukraine, which do not meet the production requirements applicable in the EU, threatens the competitiveness of Polish agriculture – emphasized the head of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture.
The minister expressed concern that the final recipients of many transports are the Baltic countries of Lithuania and Latvia, because it can be assumed that the goods transported to them will end up back in Poland.
– Due to the high export of goods from Ukraine to European Union countries, we are being forced out of EU markets – reminded Minister Siekierski.
The head of the Ministry of Agriculture noted that in the context of the situation on the poultry market, the large export of day-old chickens from European Union countries to Ukraine is worrying.
– There is a need for in-depth analyzes based on detailed data – said Minister Siekierski.
Strengthening border controls
At the border crossing in Medyka, Minister Czesław Siekierski talked to farmers – representatives of the “Oszukana Wieś” association – about strengthening border control.
– We are at the reloading station in Medyka. This is where trains with grain, sugar and other goods, as well as industrial goods from Ukraine, arrive. Later, these goods either continue in transit or are reloaded and exported towards Germany and Polish ports, and some of them go to the Polish market – said Minister Czesław Siekierski.
During a visit to the border crossing in Hrebenne, Minister Siekierski announced that the inspections showed the need to strengthen the Veterinary Inspection at the borders. The minister announced intensification of inspections and greater activation of the inspection work.
– There is a need to employ additional veterinarians there. Excessive imports of sugar, oil and cereal products such as flour, cereal meals, especially corn, to the Polish market are also confirmed – emphasized Minister Siekierski.
Secretary of State Michał Kołodziejczak was at the border in Hrubieszów on Saturday and in Dorohusk on Sunday.
– The Polish border will be tight like never before – announced Deputy Minister Kołodziejczak. – Today’s border controls are the result of specific guidelines – zero tolerance for any irregularities. I will protect Polish farmers and Polish food production, he added.

Secretary of State Stefan Krajewski inspected road and rail border crossings in Koroszczyny, Terespol and Małaszewicze from the early morning hours.
– The services are working, but we will take appropriate steps to further increase the effectiveness of these activities – said Deputy Minister Krajewski and emphasized that food security is the most important thing for us.
