Today, i.e. Monday, March 4 this year. Prime Minister Donald Tusk is to turn to Marshal Szymon Hołownia with a proposal for a resolution of the Polish Sejm calling on the European Commission to impose full sanctions on Russian and Belarusian agricultural and food products.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk is staying on Monday, March 4 this year. in Vilnius, where he met the Prime Minister of Lithuania Ingrida Šimonytė.
At a joint press conference, Prime Minister Tusk announced that the topics of the talks included, among others: the situation on the Polish and European food markets and tensions resulting from the inflow of food and agricultural products from both Russia and Belarus and – thanks to the EC’s decision – also duty-free from Ukraine.
He announced that today, i.e. Monday, March 4 this year. will ask Marshal Szymon Hołownia to propose a resolution of the Polish Sejm calling on the European Commission to impose full sanctions on Russian and Belarusian agricultural and food products.
– I am convinced that a common European decision will be more effective than individual decisions of the countries of the region. I understand them, but I would prefer that we, as the entire EU, decide on sanctions against Russia and Belarus regarding food and agricultural products, said the Prime Minister.
He added that this is about making sanctions more realistic and strengthened in connection with Russia’s attack on Ukraine and Belarus’ cooperation in this attack, but also about more effective protection of the European, Lithuanian and Polish agricultural markets and food products.
He admitted that these markets were under great pressure due to the war and there is no doubt that one of the main tasks is to fully unblock the export of agricultural and food products from Ukraine to third countries that were traditional recipients of these goods.
– I am in constant contact with partners in Europe, including Prime Minister Šimonytė, and, of course, with Kiev, so as to solve the problems that arise on the border of the EU and Ukraine as quickly and effectively as possible. I must find a solution that will also effectively protect the Polish and European markets against unequal competition – added Prime Minister Tusk.
