High animal sales did not translate into price increases

During today’s auction, significantly more animals were sold than during Tuesday’s session. Unfortunately, this did not translate into a higher bid.

Of the 9 batches of pigs exhibited (1,440 pigs), 8 (1,280 animals) were sold. This is a big improvement compared to Tuesday’s results, when less than half of the exhibited animals were sold.

However, this fact did not translate into a higher bid. Today’s session ended with the same result as the previous two, i.e. EUR 2.35 per kilogram. During the session, the price range of 2.34 – 2.35 euros per kilogram was considered.

Converted into Polish zlotys (according to today’s euro exchange rate: 1 EUR = 4.31 PLN), the rate from the small exchange is PLN 10.13 per kilogram. This price is for our E class equivalent.

Prices of fattening pigs on a large stock exchange

Wednesday’s session of the VEZG stock exchange also ended with the current rate maintained. This means that the recommended price of fattened pigs in Germany is EUR 2.20 per kilogram of fattened pig with a meat content of 57%. Converted into Polish zlotys (at today’s euro exchange rate), this gives PLN 9.48 per kilogram.

Unfortunately, the distance between the VEZG price and prices in Poland is increasing. At the beginning of the week, a fattened pig in class E was valued at PLN 9.07 net per kilogram. In turn, the price of live pigs fluctuates around PLN 7.10 net per kilogram.

Pigs for fattening are becoming more expensive, but prices are not keeping up with the German market
