Prices of fattening pigs in Poland

In the case of fattened pigs in live weight, prices range from PLN 6.50 to PLN 7.50 net per kilogram. The average purchase price is PLN 7.05 net per kilogram, which is 4 groszy less than a week ago.
Prices of fattened pigs are stabilizing
As Aleksander Dargiewicz, president of the management board of KZP-PTCh “Polpig”, comments, the recent price increases for fattened pigs resulted from the increased demand for pork from meat plants:
-The reason for the increased demand for live pigs in the European Union in recent weeks is the replenishment of stocks by meat plants before the start of the barbecue season. In addition, slaughterhouses are interested in increasing the use of their slaughter capacity. High energy prices have not recently encouraged maintaining high levels of pork stocks. Some market participants do not expect pig prices to drop in the coming weeks, which is why there is greater interest in the raw material, says the expert.

As Dargiewicz adds, however, meat plants complain about difficulties in translating higher prices of livestock into retail chains, which is the reason for the continued lack of increase in pig purchase prices.
– After maintaining the price of VEZG fattened pigs in Germany last week at the level of €2.20/kg (wbc), price stabilization was recorded in other EU countries. Price stability also remains on the small German stock exchange. The situation on the pork market in the EU did not change due to an additional small impulse from Asian markets – comments the specialist.
In the opinion of the president of Polpig, there is no significant change in the situation on the domestic market resulting from the upcoming Easter holidays. The raw material is processed by slaughterhouses on an ongoing basis, with slightly higher slaughter weights and no significant price movements compared to last week.
