Further talks on solving problems with Ukraine in the food trade

On Thursday, Minister of Agriculture Czesław Siekierski held another online meeting with the Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solski – the Ministry of Agriculture announced in a press release.

Bogusław Wijatyk, director general at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, also participated in the conversation.

Minister Czesław Siekierski drew attention to the need to quickly solve problems in mutual trade relations between our countries. He explained that the Polish side hopes to reach an agreement with the Ukrainian side, which would contribute to eliminating disruptions on the Polish market and facilitate the end of the ongoing farmers’ protests – the ministry said in a statement.

Referring to Minister Mykola Solski’s question about the demands regarding the Green Deal, the Polish minister said that we wanted to give up excessive demands on farmers.

Our expectations are clear: we will not be satisfied with cosmetic changes, emphasized Minister Siekierski.

He also expressed hope that, among other things, excluding fallowing and reviewing the provisions of the Green Deal will improve the situation of farmers who are currently struggling with the problem of low profitability on their farms.

Minister Mykola Solski expressed understanding for the demands of the Polish side. He pointed out that Ukrainian farmers also expect solutions and put pressure on the Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture.

During the meeting, the ministers also discussed preparations for participation in the 9th meeting of the Polish-Ukrainian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation, which is planned in the near future.
