Price increases continue to dominate the weaner market. Jakub Dorożyński, sales specialist from PH Konrad, mentions the potential for further increases.

According to the results of our weekly survey, the vast majority of surveyed weaners sales points increased their prices (from PLN 9 to PLN 31/piece).
Forecasts for the piglet market
Jakub Dorożyński, sales specialist from PH Konrad, maintains his opinion on the potential for further increases, which is visible on the weaner market.
– We will probably expect further increases. Weaners are still missing, and there is no prospect of their appearance in larger numbers yet. The production of weaners in Denmark has decreased by approximately 10% over the last two years. – says Dorożyński. – Currently, all countries important in pig production are reaching out to Denmark for weaners, and the biggest fuss is caused by countries characterized by seasonal arrivals, including: Italy and Romania. They want animals now and are willing to pay more for them. Prices of free market animals are PLN 20-30 higher than contract weaners and there are no changes on the horizon for now. All the more so because fattened pigs are becoming more expensive, which drives the Danes to raise prices, he adds.
Current prices of domestic weaners (February 16, 2024)?
In the case of domestic weaners, the vast majority of surveyed sales points increased their prices (from PLN 10 to PLN 20/piece).
According to the results of our weekly survey, rates for domestically produced weaners weighing 20 kg currently average PLN 370/piece. net, i.e. by PLN 5/pcs. more than a week ago. Prices of weaners in this mass range from PLN 350 to PLN 380/piece. net.
Domestic weaners weighing 30 kg cost on average PLN 459/piece. net, i.e. by PLN 10/pcs. more than last week. Their prices range from PLN 410 to PLN 485/pcs. net.
How much do imported weaners cost (February 15, 2024)?
In the case of imported piglets, all surveyed sales points decided to increase prices (from PLN 9 to PLN 31/piece).
Weaner pigs imported from Denmark are currently valued at an average of PLN 482/piece. net, i.e. by PLN 14/pcs. more than a week ago. Their prices range from PLN 432 to PLN 529/piece. net. The prices given are for weaners weighing 30 kg.
