In Kamień Duży and Nowa Wieś in the Iława district, the 9th and 10th cases were detected this year in the province. Warmian-Masurian bird flu outbreak in poultry – the veterinary services announced on Monday. A total of over 52,000 animals were bred on both farms. turkeys.

  • The Warmia-Masuria Voivodeship Veterinary Officer reported in a statement on Monday that over 8,000 animals were kept on a commercial farm in Kamień Duży and over 44,000 in Nowa Wieś. pieces of slaughter turkey.
  • The presence of genetic material from the H5N1 avian influenza virus (AIV) was found in samples collected on these farms.
  • Procedures to eliminate the disease have already been implemented – the birds were killed and sent for disposal.

Both farms are located in the so-called protection zone, designated due to the occurrence of bird flu outbreaks in the Iława commune in February. The first ones were detected almost a month ago in Dziarny. In total, over 224,000 people had to be gassed on 10 farms where the presence of the bird flu virus was found. turkeys and ducks for slaughter.

“This year is very difficult for both breeders and the veterinary inspection in the region. We have already identified 10 outbreaks; although they always occurred in February, they were not as intense as now,” Dorota Daniluk, deputy provincial veterinarian, told PAP.

In her opinion, such a large number of outbreaks may be due to the fact that many farms were located in a very small area. All this year’s outbreaks occurred in the Iława commune in the Iława poviat. Throughout last year in the province There were six outbreaks of highly pathogenic bird flu in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.

Veterinary services appeal to poultry farmers to be careful and strictly follow biosecurity rules.
