Fluctuations in the beef market are not as noticeable as in other sectors

Although there are some price fluctuations in cattle purchasing price lists, they are not as deep as in the case of other agricultural products, where it is difficult to predict which direction the changes will go in the following weeks.

An example of market instability is, among others, grain market, where rates dropped dramatically, essentially returning to the level before the war in Ukraine. In the case of the beef sector, we can talk about relative stabilization. The rates currently offered in Poland are currently slightly lower than the European average, but clearly higher than, for example, in Italy, which is one of the largest recipients of Polish beef.

The beef market is stable. Do they remain at practically the same level as a month ago? Minor price fluctuations are visible. Their level is approximately 8%. lower than a year ago, but virtually the same as in 2022 before the surge. We already warned that such a quick upward jump would not be good for the market. What was visible in 2023, when production decreased by 4.8%. with a slight increase in the cattle population – says Jacek Zarzecki, president of the Polish Association of Beef Cattle Breeders and Producers.

Beef exports to Algeria revived the market

As Zarzecki notes, there is a visible revival in the live beef market after the export of live animals to Algeria began. The proposed prices range between PLN 12.50-13.50 net per kg of live weight. However, the condition is to have at least 15 animals with certain quality parameters. The opening of the Algerian market to meat and the approval of 16 plants for export should revitalize the beef market.

Animals exported to Algeria must be born and bred in Poland. This is to prevent us from becoming a transit point. In the case of meat exports, it may come from animals born in the EU, but reared and fattened in Poland.

Polish beef has gained another export direction
