Farmers ended their protest in front of the Polish-Lithuanian border in Budzisko

The protest action of Polish farmers ended at the Polish-Lithuanian border crossing in Budzisko. It involved detailed control of transports entering Poland. According to farmers, suspicions about the “re-export” of grain from the East have been confirmed.

According to Radio Białystok and TVP Wilno, the protest in Budziska has already been resolved. However, it did not involve blocking the road crossing, but rather increased control of transports entering us from Lithuania. The Police and Border Guard cooperated closely with farmers, controlling trucks arriving in Poland.

The aim of the protest was to check whether grain exported from Ukraine to Lithuania does not actually return to Poland as grain produced in the EU and subject to control during international transport.

Confirmed suspicions

In the opinion of the protesting farmers, these suspicions were unfortunately confirmed. Ukrainian grain goes through Poland to Lithuania and then returns to our market in the form of flour and feed. It also turned out that Russian grain also enters Poland from Lithuania and goes to our neighbor from Latvia.

The import of Russian grain should be stopped by the embargo adopted by the government of Latvia on agricultural products from Belarus and Russia. However, the problem with the fictitious transit of Ukrainian grain remains. The expectations of Polish farmers that Lithuania will introduce a ban on grain imports from Ukraine seem unlikely to be met.

Lithuania still denies

According to the Lithuanian side, the allegations of Polish farmers regarding the so-called grain carousel between Ukraine and Lithuania is a myth that is not confirmed at all.
“The Lithuanian authorities will continue to actively cooperate with their Polish colleagues and farmers’ representatives to ensure the correct accounting of agricultural production in transit, and to prevent attempts to transport grain stolen by Russia from Ukraine through Lithuania or Poland,” said Lithuanian Minister of Agriculture G. Balčytytė in an interview from TVP Vilnius.
