How not to lose financial liquidity on your farm in one day? Insure your production to a wide extent and protect yourself against losses that may seriously disrupt it. PZU supports farmers in such situations and offers them a wide range of agricultural crop insurance.
- In times of increasingly frequent violent weather phenomena, it is not worth giving up agricultural insurance.
- PZU, wanting to support farmers in difficult situations, offers a wide range of agricultural insurance tailored to the needs and expectations of farmers and fruit growers.
- It also offers many variants and payment options. This is a tribute to farms that are experiencing financial difficulties.
- The largest Polish insurer is chosen by over 40% of farmers – PZU in 2023 protected a total of over 1.2 million hectares of various crops.
Agriculture is an “open-air workshop”, a branch of production that responds very strongly to the consequences of climate change. In recent years, hailstorms and torrential rains, hurricanes, long-term droughts, as well as spring frosts, which occur in critical stages of plant development and determine their future yield, have become particularly troublesome.
These phenomena, especially if they occur in high intensity, can quickly lead to damage of great economic importance and drag down even the most prosperous farm. However, the farmer can insure himself against the consequences of such events and thus gain greater stability.
Get a subsidy from the state budget – up to 65% of the contribution amount
What can a farmer insure himself against? In mid-March, PZU started selling crop insurance against unfavorable weather phenomena occurring in the spring and summer. Both farmers and fruit growers can receive funding of up to 65% of the insurance premium. The limit on premium subsidies granted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for this year is sufficient for field crops – everyone interested in the PZU offer will be able to take advantage of it.
The subsidy applies to both crop insurance against compulsory risks, e.g. hail, spring frosts, and voluntary risks, i.e. torrential rain, hurricane. The insurance sales that have just started concern protection for the cultivation of cereals, rapeseed and other spring crops. PZU has also prepared a special discount on cereal crop insurance. It is available to customers who have an insurance policy covering buildings belonging to a farm.

Single risks or packages?
PZU’s offer is very flexible. The farmer can choose between individual risks, e.g. spring frosts or hail, or include the so-called package policy. This offer is addressed to producers of many species of spring and winter crops. PZU offers two such packages:
- “Spring Package” – protection of crops against damage caused by hail and spring frosts,
- “5 Risk Package” – protection of crops against the effects of heavy rain, hurricane, lightning, avalanche or landslide.
This year, sugar beet producers may, for an additional fee, extend the scope of protection to include a loss of polarization clause.

PZU wants to support farmers on many levels
Flexibility also applies to the choice of payment method. Customers can pay the premium in installments without any additional fees or postpone the payment date until after the harvest. They can also reduce the integral deductible (the percentage of the sum insured to which the insurance company is not liable) – to 8%. The insurer also offers its clients access to measurement stations in a selected area, which help in the ongoing management of the farm and allow for even better risk management.
The company has also prepared a nice addition for customers – a competition with attractive prizes (4×4 quad, weather station, drone, smartwatches). Anyone who purchases PZU Crop insurance between March 11 and April 28, 2024, pays the premium or the first installment of the premium under the insurance contract, completes the application form on the campaign website and attaches 3 photos showing preparations for the new agricultural season in farm. The competition will last 7 weeks. More details can be found at: https://www.pzu.pl/konkurs-fotografia
If not subsidized insurance, then maybe on a commercial basis?
In addition to the subsidized insurance offer, PZU offers year-round commercial insurance for all crops (including herbs, ornamental plants in nurseries, crops in greenhouses and foil tunnels, etc.), as well as many other insurances for the agro segment, including: compulsory third party liability insurance for farmers, buildings on farms, private third party liability insurance, agricultural equipment and other movable property, animals, poultry, straw or hay stored outside buildings, life and health insurance, as well as personal accident insurance for farmers and their spouses, and motor insurance policies.
Support for new technologies
Technology and science can be a great support for farmers in their daily duties. To this end, PZU offers agricultural producers a modern solution that can help reduce production costs and support sustainable cultivation.
The PZU iAgro tool introduced for clients of the largest Polish insurer is the result of PZU’s cooperation with the Polish company Agro Smart Lab, which offers the Farm Smart system. The PZU iAgro platform based on this system offers agricultural producers tools to optimize farm management and support them in making decisions.
PZU iAgro enables you to use a precise system for monitoring and signaling disease and pest infections. This allows you to determine when and how much protective treatments should be applied. Farmers using the tool’s function can reduce crop losses and reduce unnecessary use of plant protection products, which translates into reduced production costs.
