Just a few years ago, only a few companies offered mulch harrows. Currently, another manufacturer, in this case Euro-Masz, presents such a device, and that’s a good thing, because the choice will be even greater. What are the characteristics of the equipment presented in Kielce?
With the increasing popularity of simplified tillage in Poland, there are also more and more machine manufacturers who offer equipment to work in this technology.
One of the devices that work well and are recommended for this cultivation technology is a mulch harrow, also known as a rake. The Euro-Masz company has just joined the group of producers of these machines and presented its newest child, the BM series harrow, at the fair in Kielce.
Several models in the Euro-Masz catalog
The entire series includes several models that differ in working width. Machines with a width of 3, 6 and 7.5 m are available. The company also plans to include rakes with a larger working width.
BM harrows are mounted machines with a classic design. The frame consists of two segments (apart from the 3 m wide harrow, of course), on which springs, which are the working elements of the harrow, are suspended in five rows. The wire they are made of has a diameter of 16 mm. The angle of attack of the springs relative to the ground can be hydraulically adjusted. The equipment options include a row of corrugated plates that can be mounted in front of the springs. They are placed on flat springs, which simultaneously press them to the ground and protect them against damage when they hit an obstacle.

Who needs this?
The mulch harrow is an extremely important element of no-plough cultivation. Its purpose is to superficially loosen the soil.
Additionally, the teeth vibrating during operation clear piles of straw (although never as well as a combine harvester), shake out weed and volunteer seeds and stimulate the whole group to sprout. At the same time, they “powder” the crop residues with the soil, which accelerates their mineralization. It is recommended to make the first pass as soon as possible after harvesting the main crop, and subsequent passes as self-seeding plants appear (but the machine works best when they are small).

High efficiency
The undoubted advantage of using this type of harrow is their high work efficiency. They work at speeds of 15-20 km/h times 6 m wide – calculate how many hectares that is.
As for fuel consumption, it is around 2-3 l/ha. In a field prepared by a harrow, it is better to work, for example, with a strip tillage set.
