From March 4, Generali Agro customers who insured their winter cereals against other risks in the autumn season of 2023 can insure them against drought.
The insurance in question is covered by a subsidy from the state budget of up to 65%.
– As an insurer specializing in the agricultural industry, this year we will also provide our clients with professional protection against drought risk – says Krzysztof Mrówka, Director of the Agricultural Insurance Department, Generali Agro. – Last year’s drought had a very negative impact on the yield of most plant species, and the additional lack of water and low prices of agricultural produce contributed to greater financial losses on many farms. In regions where the frequency of droughts is highest, we recommend that farmers – whenever possible – select crop species that tolerate periodic water shortages. Applying this principle to at least some fields will help reduce losses in the main crop, he explains.
What should you pay attention to when taking out drought insurance?
Generali Agro customers who insured their winter cereals against other risks in the autumn season of 2023 can insure them against drought.
For crops to be protected against drought risk, two more conditions must be met: In each insured field, at least one plot must be specified with the Geoportal, and at least one field in the policy must be no less than 5 ha.
Please remember that crop insurance against drought risk includes a deductible of 25% of the sum insured. It results directly from the provisions of the Act on insurance of agricultural crops and farm animals.
– In practice, this means reducing each compensation by the equivalent of 25% of the sum insured in a given field – explains Krzysztof Mrówka.
Drought risk insurance will be available from Generali Agro from March 4 to March 20 or until limits are exhausted.
