DLG Field Days 2024 packed with modern agriculture

Over 360 exhibitors from 18 different countries. 55 ha of exhibition space. And in every corner there is specialist knowledge in the field of cultivation, plant protection, fertilization, machinery and cultivation technology. The DLG Feldtage Field Days in Germany are underway.

  • This year’s DLG Feldtage Field Days are organized in western Germany in North Rhine-Westphalia on a farm – Gut Brockhof, Erwitte near Lippstadt.
  • The DLG Feldtage Field Days take place in 2024 from June 11 to 13.
  • The motto of this year’s DLG Field Days is “Crop production out of the box”, which can be roughly translated as: “Non-standard plant production”.

Field days DLG Feldtage is a mine of contemporary and modern agriculture. In the case of plant production, it is difficult to point out a similar field event organized in Poland. So that you can see the fruits of the latest work of so many companies in the industry in one place.

Of course, there are fair events where many companies talk about their offers at their stands, but there is no event where, in addition to information, you can observe everything with the naked eye. And this is what the DLG Fair in Germany is like.

Here, exhibitors not only flex their muscles by talking about their current achievements, but very often have all of this at their stands. For example, they present their varieties in micro-plots, discuss digital solutions, and present the developed technologies at field shows. Each visitor can learn about the details of new solutions, and in many cases, they can touch or compare them with their own eyes.

We invite you to watch a short photo report from the first day of DLG:

What does non-standard thinking mean in agricultural production?

The motto of this year’s DLG Field Days is “Crop production out of the box”, which can be roughly translated as: “Non-standard plant production”.

What could this mean in practice? These are not routine, bold, pioneering and innovative solutions confirmed by the latest scientific research, tailored to contemporary environmental, climatic or legislative challenges. It is a combination of sustainable agricultural development, biodiversity protection with productivity, economy and social acceptance.

Winter barley in poor condition. What is the reason for this?

Domination of breeding companies

As every year, the DLG Field Days were dominated by breeding companies. Companies such as Rapool, Saaten Union, DSV, Limagrain, KWS, IGP, RAGT had their stands. There was also a Polish accent, as DANKO HR also had its stand. On site, the plots included well-established varieties of rye, triticale and wheat, but also new ones. The companies focused on discussing the latest varieties with increased resistance to the most significant pathogens. This trend is developing very clearly in Germany. Great hopes for problems in plant protection are placed in solutions in the field of plant breeding. Winter barley resistant to barley yellow dwarf, rapeseed resistant to new pathotypes of clubroot are just a few examples in this area. Varieties of high-protein plants, including winter forms of peas and field beans, were also very popular.

Fertilizer companies presented included: K+S, Yara, and Timac Agro. There were stands of phytopharmaceutical companies: UPL and Bayer. For example, Bayer presented Magic Trap. This is a yellow vessel for catching rapeseed pests. The container is filled with water and equipped with a high-resolution camera that photographs the caught pests. The system is able to recognize all pests known in rapeseed cultivation and sends a notification to the farmer with information about their number.

Organic farming

Another area of interest for DLG-Feldtage 2024 is organic farming. In various exhibition and event formats, farmers could discuss the latest achievements and innovations in organic farming and learn about many recommendations in this area: ancient cereal varieties, unusual species, sowing crops with associated species, e.g. corn sown with vetch, etc.

A bit of technique

Over 70 different machine shows are scheduled for Field Days. These were machines that could be admired at rest, as well as in the form of organized field demonstrations. These solutions are grouped into several thematic areas, such as: “Weed control using cultivators for row crops of cereals and corn”, “Shallow cultivation – from cultivators to skimmer plows”, “Multi-seeders” designed for combined sowing of seeds and deep fertilization, ” Innovative technologies for chemical plant protection”, “Modern mineral fertilizer spreaders” and “Lifting and loading technology”.

Autonomous solutions

As part of DLG Field Days 2024, space has been made available for suppliers of automated solutions in plant production.

There were mainly automatic weeders working on site, which control weeds not only between the rows but also within the rows. They are used not only for special crops such as vegetables, but are increasingly used for crops such as corn or sugar beets. Some devices also allowed the application of fertilizers during operation. They are equipped with, for example, GPS systems, solar panels and cameras.

The Field Days will last until June 13 this year.
