The French dairy concern Danone decided to close its company in Belarus, DanonBel.
The French producer of dairy products Danone has already taken steps to liquidate its subsidiary in Belarus, DanonBel, reports the Interfax-Ukraine agency.
DanonBel has been officially representing the Danone concern in Belarus since 2009 and has been carrying out wholesale deliveries of Danone products to this country. Until 2022, the French manufacturer also owned two processing plants in Belarus – Danon Pruzhany and Danon Shklov. These dairies have already been taken over by other companies.
Information about the final liquidation of the Danone company in Belarus is already confirmed in the official Belarusian registers regarding the register of entrepreneurs. The owner decided to liquidate the company. However, everything indicates that the company’s authorities did it for fear of repeating the scenario from Russia.
When after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in 2022 Danone suspended investments in Russia and announced plans to cease operations in this country, the Russian authorities decided to take over the French dairy business by the state. In March 2024, Putin suspended the nationalization of Danone’s Russian companies, but there were speculations about intentions to buy out the French plants by a private company linked to Ramzan Kadyrov’s family.
