For the 2024/2025 season, Bayer has prepared interesting new products for rapeseed producers. The offer included, among others: a rapeseed variety constituting an element of integrated protection against sweetworm, standardized seed material or a dressing particularly useful for delayed sowing.
Even more precision in sowing
For autumn 2024, Bayer has prepared a new seed preparation technology for rapeseed producers, which is intended to ensure even greater sowing precision. Acceleron Precision, because this is what we are talking about, is a technology for calibration and standardization of rapeseed seeds. As Bayer experts point out, Acceleron Precision ensures uniformity of seed material – all seeds in the sowing unit are the same size (2.2-2.4 mm), thanks to which each hole in the sowing disc sucks exactly one seed, which eliminates blocking of seeds in discs and possible uneven distribution of seeds in the row. An important advantage of this technology is the sowing of a larger area with one sowing unit. “Rape sowing standards are getting lower, so the precision of sowing must be higher,” said Szymon Hoppe and Wojciech Karaś from Bayer. This fall, one of the more popular Dekalb winter rapeseed varieties from Bayer – DK Excited – will be available using Acceleron Precision technology.
A variety of rapeseed that helps in the fight against rapeseed sweetworm
Another interesting proposition for the 2024/2025 season is a new variety of winter rapeseed from Bayer. However, this is not an ordinary “productive” hybrid, but rather an element of integrated protection of rapeseed against rapeseed sweetener. The new variety – Exavance – is intended to act as an indicator of pest attacks, but also as a kind of “browsing plot”, a trap plant for the rapeseed sweetworm. The Exavance variety is characterized by a quick resumption of spring development and very early flowering with an intense yellow color, thanks to which it attracts sweet beetles. The Exavance variety is intended for sowing together with other varieties of winter rapeseed, treated as the main crop. In this scenario, the cutworm beetles invade the Exavance plants, feed on them and are less interested in the main variety. As Bayer experts add, the appearance of the pest on the early-flowering Exavance variety is also an indicator for the producer to increase vigilance and prepare for possible insecticide protection of other crops. Bayer recommends sowing packages of: 100,000. Exavance variety seeds per 1 sowing unit (1.5 million seeds) of the main variety. Seeds of both varieties can be mixed in a seeder or create strips or a “frame” around the main plantation. According to advisors, the Exavance variety can be harvested together with the main variety, because after flowering it equals the ripening rate of standard hybrids.

Rapeseed seeds with a new dressing
From next autumn, Bayer has also announced the introduction of seed material treated with the new Zinc Boost dressing. It is a micronutrient seed supplement intended to provide plants with zinc in the first stages of rapeseed development. As Bayer declares, this microelement influences the stronger development of the root system and above-ground biomass in the initial period of rapeseed growth. By improving vigor and supporting the autumn start, it will also work well in the case of delayed sowing of rapeseed.
Smart yellow dish
This year, an electronic yellow pest trapping dish will also be available for sale in Poland. The Magic Trap not only catches, but also photographs and recognizes individual insects and sends alerts in the integrated application, e.g. when a given pest species exceeds the harmful thresholds. As Bayer announces, further functionalities of the intelligent vessel are being developed.
Best-selling rapeseed varieties Dekalb
The leading varieties from the Dekalb portfolio, which will be available for sale in autumn 2024, were presented in the fields in Sławków (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship). Bayer especially recommends the varieties DK Excited, DK Exima and DK Exaura. Dr. Szymon Hoppe from Bayer mentioned the advantages of the DK Excited variety as high yield potential, effective use of nitrogen, dynamic formation of side branches, resistance to the turnip yellows virus, and suitability for cultivation in many regions of the country, which is confirmed by COBORU recommendations. The DK Exima variety is recommended due to its high autumn vigor, which makes it suitable for delayed sowing; as well as due to good winter hardiness and flexibility in the selection of sites. Bayer calls the DK Exaura variety the “younger sister” of the DK Excited variety. It is expected to have the same set of features with even higher fat content in the seeds and additionally increased healthiness.
