Pursuant to the EC implementing regulation announced on January 25, restricted area III, i.e. red zone, was abolished from the communes of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship.
This is undoubtedly a great success of the Veterinary Inspection, thanks to which it managed to persuade the Commission to release the area from the zone. It was not obvious at all: in this case we were dealing with two foci located close to each other. In such a situation, the Commission rarely allows the zone to be closed earlier than 12 months after the end of the elimination of the last outbreak.
ASF outbreaks in pigs in the Police district
Let us recall: ASF outbreaks in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship broke out on September 27 and October 6, respectively, in the town of Przesącin in the Police County. Both of them concerned small herds: 6 and 14 animals were kept in them, respectively.
ASF zones in Poland
Currently, the map of the Chief Veterinary Inspectorate shows three red zones: in the vicinity of Poznań (part of the communes of the Szamotuły, Obornicki, Poznań and Wągrowiec counties), in the Lublin region (part of the communes of the Biała Podlaska, Lubartów, Parczew and Radzyń counties), and in the north-eastern part Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship (some of the communes of the Gołdap, Węgorzewo and Giżycko poviats. In the case of the first two zones, there is no chance of their abolition earlier than next summer – as we have had to deal with multiple ASF outbreaks there. Perhaps, however, it will be possible to free the communes Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, where only two cases occurred. Following the latest EC decision, this seems to be real.
