An impartial judge – this is typical of the evaluation of animals during Opolagra

This time, the high milk character of the animals from Opolagra was revealed during the evaluation by a foreign judge. As Martin Ziaja, who is also the exhibition commissioner, says – it is typical for us that we have a judge from abroad, and breeders like it when the judge is impartial and does not know the breeders.

The Silesian Breeding Cattle Exhibition took place on June 8-9 this year. in Kamień Śląski during Opolagra. Twenty-six dairy farmers brought their female cattle to Kamień Śląski to be assessed by a German judge.

What is important for Polish cattle breeders?

No one has any doubts that this is an exhibition that has a rich history and is very popular. During the meeting, Martin Ziaja, president of the District Cattle Breeders’ Association in Opole, PFHBiPM, drew attention to the very high standard of the animals, which was also confirmed by the foreign judge.

– This year the judge was from Germany, because it is also typical of our exhibition that we always have a foreign judge. It’s more international and our breeders like it that there is a judge who doesn’t know the breeders, is impartial and only sees the animals. The judge emphasized the incredibly high standard of the animals, especially young animals. He noted that the young animals represent a very high breeding level. I saw that during the assessment, the judge paid great attention to the so-called milk character. He notices a lot of this milk character in our animals, which actually fits with what is in our region, because our region is still at the forefront of production. Last year we took first place in Poland, this year we took second place, but it was also high. Also, this milk character and this high efficiency confirmed by the Polish Federation of Cattle Breeders and Milk Producers fit together and somehow they complement each other organizationally.

Martin Ziaja, also the exhibition commissioner, noted that the Polish Association of Beef Cattle Breeders and Producers had joined Opolagra after years of absence. This also resulted in a total of 130 animals taking part in the exhibition

What did breeders talk and discuss during Opolagra? – First of all, the trends are no different from those in the rest of the country or Europe. It is known that we have to constantly improve production efficiency, reduce costs, increase efficiency, which has become very important lately, and interestingly, it has an impact on effectiveness. This is animal welfare. On the one hand, animal welfare is enforced and required by law, but society also expects us to treat these animals humanely and in good conditions. Interestingly, the more we do in this direction, the better results we obtain, and we ourselves, as breeders, know perfectly well that if we improve this well-being, these cows will repay us with high productivity – noted Ziaja.
